A love triangle, having the hallmarks of sin and shame is put at the core of this story. Kacper, who works as a foreman, has an affair with the wife of his best friend Oskar, also a miner. To meet his mistress, he assigns Oskar to the distant and dangerous coal seams. In Jordan-Mlodzianowska`s film, however, we deal with people of flesh and blood, so when an accident occurs and Oskar gets imprisoned, the lovers throw themselves into a rescue mission.
Driven by guilt, they try to rethink the situation they got involved in. Forbidden love is partially relegated to the background, but the director does not let the characters forget of who they are and where to seek absolution. The inability to confront the imprisoned Oscar forces them to find the answer within themselves. Although the action of ‘Iron Bridge’ is based on tragic events, it is a very intimate film that initiates a journey into the spiritual depths of anyone who might think that too many problems have accumulated in their personal life. Guilt (perhaps irrational) makes the protagonists try to awaken the best part of themselves again. We can see that in addition to the dark caves of the mine, there are much darker places in the world. They find themselves at the very bottom of the human heart, where you also need to go once in a while.
